BJP wants NRC for Hyderabad
A National Registry of Citizens should be prepared by the Telangana government to identify illegal immigrants living in Hyderabad and Telangana, the BJP has demanded. Tracing the illegals is important in the context of Rohingya settlements coming up in the twin cities, the saffron party said.
There is this belief that "infiltrators" from Bangladesh and Myanmar are in Hyderabad in large numbers, the party felt.
NRC is in the news ever since a draft was recently published by the Assam government. The draft says that at least 40 lakh people living in the state are illegal immigrants. There are going to be submissions to rectify errors before a final list is published. Those who don't find a place in the NRC list will become stateless.
