BJP's cattle obsession angering even Hindus
Anti-cow slaughter campaign by the BJP and its ideological allies has started impoverishing farmers, backward communities like Chamars in North India, and Muslims. Not just Muslims but also Hindus have been hurt by the government's directive against transport of buffaloes for sale. As a result, many poor people are unable to sell off old calf and buffaloes. This has electorally affected the party in the recent UP bypolls, says a commentator.
Former Planning Commission member Arvind Virmani agrees. He writes, "After hearing first-hand reports from rural areas of farmers abandoning male calves (who were then destroying other farmers fields), I tweeted months ago that economic consequences of the bans and violence would haunt the party long after the religious euphoria was over."
It's now clear that the BJP has been shooting itself in the foot over the slaughter ban issue!
