Brutally honest about AR Rahman's fading magic
People's love for AR Rahman is so huge that it's considered politically incorrect to say that the songs of a '2.0' or some other film are nothing compared to the Rahman of the 1990s or 2000s. Take, 'Lingaa', '24' and 'Mersal' (Tamil), for examples. How many songs do you remember from these films?
Finally, someone has got brutally honest about the declining charisma of Rahman's music. Writing an open letter to the Mozart of Madras, columnist Narendra Kusnur indicates that Rahman is doing nothing at a time when Hindi film music is dead. Acknowledging the immense contribution made by Rahman in his early years, he asks, "What happened later?"
It would be an understatement to say that Rahman's genius is missing. Nobody knows what happened to it. Will it come back?
