In the face of cash crunch (ATMs are not delivering cash!) in several pockets across the country, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has on Monday said that it's only temporary. "We have reviewed the currency situation in the country. Overall, there is more than adequate currency in circulation and also available with the banks. The temporary shortage caused by a sudden and unusual increase in some areas is being tackled quickly," the FM said.
The RBI has formed a committee to look into the matter. The Centre has formed state-wise committees as a quick measure.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, has used the cash crunch as an opportunity to instill fear in the citizens. "Seeing reports of ATMs running out of cash in several States. Big notes missing. A reminder of DeMonetisation days. Is there a Financial Emergency going on in the country?" she said, true to her dangerous brand of politics.
