COVID-19: 'Capitalists are putting profits over lives'

With Donald Trump on Monday suggesting that the lockdown may have to be ended in the US by the first week of April, critics are of the view that Republicans and capitalists are hell-bent on putting profits over lives.

"WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!" the US President said, sparking fears of millions of deaths happening if the economy is opened.

Robert Reich, a renowned commentator, said, "Wall Street and big corporations think the biggest problem now is the economy. They want to lift public-health restrictions that are harming businesses.  They are wrong. The biggest problem is the pandemic and the most important goal is to save lives. This requires shutting the economy."

"Right-wing politicians are starting to verbalize what has always held true for them: the profits of the owning class are more important than saving millions of working-class lives," a Bernie Sanders-supporting group tweeted out.
