Covid-19: Western countries are importing Indian spices more than ever
During Sunday's Mann Ki Baat episode, Narendra Modi said that countries in Europe as well as US and Canada are increasingly importing more and more quantities of Indian spices in Covid-19 times. This is because some of the spices have been seen as immunity-boosting products. At a time when Coronavirus cases are surging, people want to consume them.
As per a Financial Times report, "Turmeric, ginger and other spices are enjoying a popularity bump" in the wake of the pandemic. "The spike in demand has been a boon for producers in Asia and beyond," the report says.
It adds that the retail sales of ginger rose 94%, turmeric 68% and garlic 62% in the US since March.
