Decriminalizing homosexuality: It's up to SC
The Centre has today said that it's up to the Supreme Court to take a decision on Section 377, the controversial and regressive IPC section that criminalizes homosexuality. "We are leaving it to the wisdom of the court," the Centre has said. This has been seen as the Modi sarkar's refusal to take a stand on the issue.
If and when the section is abrogated, the LGBT community will have freedom to have consensual sex and contest elections, among others.
There is a widespread civil society support against Section 377. "You know you're living in the wrong times when two people loving each other becomes a far greater issue than two people killing each other," says writer @PriyaSometimes.
