Demonetization man returns!
S Gurumurthy, a chartered accountant and journalist, is widely believed to be the man who recommended to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement Demonetization in 2016. Overnight, 86 percent of Indian currency was declared null and void. It's a mystery whether Gurumurthy advised phased demonetization or a shock therapy. What's known is that he has since vociferously defended Notebandi.
The CA is back in the news with the Centre appointing him as a Reserve Bank of India director. "Story of my appointment as director RBI. This is the first directorship ever. Never accepted any private or PSU directorship. Not even audit of PSUs or Pvt cos. Wanted to be free to speak. But when pressure built up I am needed to do something in public interest I had to accept," Gurumurthy has said.
He comes from an RSS background and is a strong proponent of Swadeshi economics.
