Sachin Tendulkar is busy winning accolades for donating his salary and other allowances earned as the Member of Parliament of Rajya Sabha to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. The donation is to the tune of Rs. 90 lakhs.
However, analysts are of the opinion that commending Sachin for the donation is downright silly. Says columnist Nitin Pai, "What Tendulkar donates or doesn't spend is a pittance compared to the opportunity cost of not doing the MP's job diligently. That cost is perhaps around Rs. 22,000 crores over 6 years."
"Attendance of Rekha is 4.5% and Sachin Tendulkar's is 7.3%. He donates entire salary. Nice move but this will not solve attendance issue. Why give salary for 7% attendance? We should link salary to attendance," says commentator Anshul Saxena.
