Fishermen are heroes in Kerala for this reason

Indian armed forces, NGOs and organizations like the RSS have been putting in phenomenal efforts in Kerala in this tragic hour.  There is a set of unsung heroes whose bravery and intelligence needs to be lauded.  They are Kerala's fishermen.

"When floodwaters covered Kerala, fishermen showed up immediately.  At current count, they have rescued more than 1 lakh people. Malayalam social media is filled with tributes.  Navy and NDRF crews can’t praise them enough - their knowledge of local water bodies, their sheer fortitude and not to mention their boat skills have been a game changer," says @CarDroidusMax on Twitter.

In fact, if CEO Porinju Veliyath has to be believed, it's fishermen who are doing the maximum rescue work.  "Salute the unsung heroes of Kerala who have been doing 90% of the rescue operations and distribution food & other essentials - fishermen, local youth, volunteers, housing societies, caterers, truck/Jeep drivers, DYFI & RSS cadre. Almost all unaffected people are involved!" he tweets out.

Truly brave and kind of the 'Sons of the Seas'.
