Kamal proposes, 'casteist' Shruti opposes?
Is it like Kamal Haasan doesn't believe in caste but Shruti Haasan is a proud Iyengar? That seems to be the case.
Just the other day, the actor-turned-politician was proud to say that the school admission forms of Shruti and Akshara didn't have caste name mentioned. "I refused to fill in the caste and religion column in both my daughters’ school admission certificate. That’s the only way, it will pass on to the next generation. Every individual should start contributing fr progress. Kerala started implementing the same. Those who do should be celebrated," he tweeted out.
But what Shruti had remarked in a 2014 video interview is more than startling. She identified herself as an Iyengar. Not stopping at this, she even said that the interviewer as well is an Iyengar, just in case the viewers didn't know!
Can it be taken as a case of slip-of-tongue? No, if one were to go back a little. In a 2013 newspaper interview, the 'Gabbar Singh' actress was at it again. "My dad is an Iyengar and my mom is a half-Maharashtrian and half-Rajput. The Iyers have the better-looking boys and the Iyengars the prettier girls," she postulated.
