Kerala CM continues to get silly praises
At a time when the COVID-19 health emergency has brought the country on its knees, critics are alleging that Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, is indulging in a Public Relations exercise by getting undeserved praises for "containing" the spread of the novel coronavirus. Apart from this, he has been lauded by sections of media and commentariat for announcing a huge economic stimulus package recently.
A journalist named Sanyukta has gone to the extent of comparing it with the Centre's allocation for medical facilities during the COVID-19 outbreak. "PM Modi announces Rs 15,000 crore package for #coronavirus treatment and infrastructure. Hmm. Kerala alone has announced a Rs 20,000 crore package for tackling coronavirus."
Actually, this hides the fact that what Modi has announced is not a package. "FALSE comparison! PM Modi has announced a package for strengthening immediate healthcare while Kerala has announced an 'economic stimulus' package. When India announces economic stimulus, it would be in lakhs of crores for reviving the economy in the country and in States, including Kerala," says Varun Jhaveri, a bureaucrat.
