Mahalaxmi Express rescue operation underway
Due to the torrential rain, Mahalaxmi Express(Mumbai-Kolhapur) is stopped 100 km away from Mumbai, which is in between Vangani and Badlapur, as the rainwater flooded the railway tracks. As per the Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railways Sunil Udasi, more than 700 passengers are on board.
Already, Railway Protection Force and City Police have reached the site and distributed water and biscuits to the passengers. The train is held up there since 3 am, as per the passenger.
The NDRF team and Navy chopper are conducting a rescue operation. As per the ANI, " 8 flood rescue teams from Navy including 3 diving teams mobilized with rescue material, inflatable boats & life jackets. A Sea King Helicopter also sent with divers for deployment in the area as advance assessment party".
The officials requested the passengers not to get down from the train and they will be assisted by RPF and City Police, who are on the train right now.
