Mani Ratnam returns to commercial format
After unsuccessfully trying to tantalize the audience with 'Cheliyaa' ('Kaatru Veliyadai'), whose hero (Karthi) was a flawed army personnel, acclaimed director Mani Ratnam is back with 'Nawab' ('Chekka Chivvantha Vaanam' in Tamil).
Its trailer has released recently. On the face of it, Mani is falling back on the commercial format. Prakash Raj plays a powerful man whose three sons (Arvind Swamy, Arun Vijay and Simbu) are either loyal or disloyal. Jyothika as Swamy's wife and Aditi Rao Hydari as a journalist have meaty roles.
The element of an inspector (played by Vijay Sethupathy) and his equations with Simbu's character may make for a gripping watch. There is action, there is a battle brewing in the household, there is politics. This story is at least more direct than Mani's previous film.
Music is by AR Rahman and we hope the songs will be cool. The action-drama is expected to hit the cinemas on Sept 28.
