Maratha Quota War: Union Minister all for 75% reservation
Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, who belongs to the Republican Party of India, has issued a statement in support of the demand for quotas by Marathas in Maharashtra. He added that the cap for reservations should be raised to 75 percent.
"I support the Maratha reservation demand. I appeal protesters to protest peacefully. We need to make a law in parliament and raise reservation cap from 50% to 75%, will also raise this issue in NDA," he said.
The Maratha stir comes years after the Patidar andolan turned violent in Gujarat in 2015. Jats in states like Rajasthan and Haryana, and Kapus in Andhra Pradesh, among others, are also demanding reservations.
