MeToo panel dissolved by Modi govt; Activists demand answers
Last year, a Group of Ministers forum was set up by the Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet to study the structural changes that need to be made to add more teeth to the existing paraphernalia that addresses complaints related to sexual harassment of women at workplaces. The GoM comprised of Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Maneka Gandhi and Nitin Gadkari.
As per the latest reports, this GoM was recently dissolved. The government has refused to disclose what all was discussed in the GoM's various meetings, if and when they were held.
This has outraged a number of #MeToo activists, who are unhappy over the development. They are of the view that the promises made by the government have been left unfulfilled. As such, an important achievement of the #MeToo movement has turned out to be a mirage.
