Modi checkmating Communist influence?
After decades of Nehruvian status quo in higher education, the Narendra Modi government is trying to infuse private competition to ensure quality improvement, analysts say. The Centre's Institutions of Excellence initiative is part of this grand endeavour.
For long now, Leftists have had a hold over the academia, thanks to their closeness to the Delhi ruling clique.
"I have always said that the Govt should throw open the education market to competition to neuter the entrenched Left. Institution of Eminence program by the HRD Ministry is a first step for this. The mafia of communist bullies never cared about quality or output. They ruined India’s universities by turning them into battlegrounds of poisonous politics. Bold of Modi govt to end the racket, take on the professor-thugs," says Rajeev Mantri.
Will this move indeed improve autonomy and quality while staving off the influence of destructive Communist politics? It's a long haul for sure.
