Modi fails to allay people's fears over essentials
Narendra Modi on Tuesday night addressed the nation and announced that the country will be on a nation-wide lockdown till April 14. He spoke for more than 26 minutes but the Prime Minister didn't assuage people's fears over access to essentials like groceries.
"We are taking all steps to ensure the continuous supply of essential commodities," the PM said, making no further elaboration.
Instead, a government notification was released minutes after the speech. The official note spoke of the exemptions. "Had the PM clearly talked about the exemptions in his address, panic buying could have been averted. Modi was very vague and millions across the country feared that groceries, etc. won't be available during the "curfew" period," a Twitter user said.
