Modi govt created these many jobs in Tourism sector
Right from the beginning, tourism has been a focus area for the Narendra Modi government. What is the impact on the ground? Have there been any jobs?
KJ Alphons, the Minister of State for Tourism, has today claimed that about 14 million jobs have been created since May 2014 in the sector. If this is true, then it's a big thing for sure.
Saying that focus on new areas like North East India has paid dividends, Alphons today stated that the safety of women has been ensured through various initiatives. About 14 states have put in place Tourist Police, the Minister said.
New areas like Cruise Tourism have been given a special attention. Recently, the government allocated Rs. 33 CR to promote cruise tourism in Cochin and another Rs. 9 CR for creating a walkway. "There are 24 million cruisers in the world and we want India to get a good share of that. Spending close to 100 crores on this," Alphons said. Every rupee spent on the sector creates a higher number of jobs than what is the case in other sectors.
