No use of quotas coz there are no jobs: Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that extending reservations won't be of any use as there are no new jobs in the public sector.  He was speaking in the context of the Marathas demanding quotas in Maharashtra.

"In banks, the jobs have shrunk because of IT.  The government recruitment drives are frozen. Where are the jobs?" Gadkari asked, adding that demanding quotas on the basis of backwardness has become a political interest (for caste groups). He added that Brahmin groups in Bihar and UP are heard saying that they are backward although they dominate politics.

Amid reports that the Centre is mooting a change in the criteria for quotas, the Minister clarified, "My attention has been drawn to certain media reports attributed to me. There is absolutely no thinking at the central government to change the reservation criteria from castes to economic conditions."

The Minister's 'No jobs' statement has been used by the Congress to say that the Modi government has failed in creating jobs since 2014.  But it must be said that Gadkari was talking about government jobs, not private sector jobs, which are being created aplenty in India.
