P Chidambaram is accused, Congress hits back
P Chidambaram, India's former Finance Minister, has been accused of indulging in corruption by the Central Bureau of Investigation earlier on Thursday. This is in connection with the high-profile Aircel-Maxis case in which his son, Karti Chidambaram, is already facing a trial.
The 72-year-old politician, however, has claimed that the CBI was pressured to file a chargesheet against him. "It's a preposterous allegation against me," he has said.
In another development, the Congress today claimed that there is a pressure on Christian Michael, an accused in the Agusta Westland case, to falsely name Sonia Gandhi during interrogation. "Now, his advocate Rosemary Patrizi clearly states that Modi government and its agencies are forcing Christian Michael to sign false confession naming Sonia Gandhi ji," RS Surjewala of the Congress has said.
