Pranab as 'compromise PM'? Is it sensible?
Many are of the opinion that RSS is keen on proposing Pranab Mukherjee's name as the "compromise Prime Minister" candidate in 2019 if the BJP fails to win even 220 or 230 seats. It's said that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is moving closer to Pranab only with this intent in mind. Shiv Sena party's Sanjay Raut too repeated this assertion.
Says columnist Telakapalli Ravi, "Pranab as next PM is just a diversionary tactic by many, including the RSS parivar. When Rahul has announced himself as a candidate, and many regional satraps are in waiting mode, how can an octogenarian former President expect that? It's a cooked up story by vested interests."
Columnist Shekar Gupta opines, "We know that New Delhi is a benighted city. But even by its low standards, wide speculation that Pranab is positioning himself as some kind of a consensus prime minister if 2019 sees a hung House, is the most absurd ever."
