Protest at Cannes

Protest at Cannes

Call it feminism or whatever, 82 women staged a protest at Cannes festival on Sunday.  For what?  Greater representation of women at Cannes and in the film industry.  Nothing more, nothing less.

India's Nandita Das was one of them.  "In @Festival_Cannes, I was part of the 82 women who marched up the red carpet to ask for more representation of women. Very moving experience. Holding hands in solidarity. So glad to be a part of it," Das tweeted out.  "Women are not a minority in the world, yet the current state of our industry says otherwise," said Cate Blanchett at the festival.

The well-meaning protest has won the applause of the right-thinking observers and commoners.
