Researchers claim COVID-19 is less harmful in India
A team of researchers has been quoted as saying by scientist and political commentator Anand Ranganathan that the COVID-19 strain in India is less virulent. The research paper is yet to be peer-reviewed. As such, it can't be given the status of gospel truth.
BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has advertised similar views. "My US-based friend, a scientist Ramesh Swamy, informs me that a US researcher has found that the COVID-19 strain in India is a less virulent mutation. Uniquely it is able to be targetted and defeated more effectively by our body’s natural defensive mechanism than the strains abroad.."
If true, this is some really great news for India. Last week, a Delhi-based medical expert predicted that novel coronavirus positive cases will explode like a bomb in India by March 25. Nothing of the sort has happened so far.
