Rural India to save Modi?
It's more than a year before Lok Sabha polls. But the political opposition has virtually started its campaign. The HD Kumaraswamy swearing-in was an occasion for a display of unity.
As things stand, Modi is "arithmetically challenged" to take on his rivals. However, he is hoping that rural welfare schemes will win him 2019. Schemes for housing, toilet construction, electricity connections and cooking gas connections are turning out to be big successes.
But what about urban India? Despite low inflation, fuel prices are bothering urbanites more. There are other issues like voter apathy, as recently proved by Bengaluru. In the absence of overwhelming urban support for Modi, will it be only rural India that will be the saving grace?
