SC bars outsiders from doing Namaz at Taj

In January this year, the Agra district administration had said that non-residents of Agra can't enter the Taj Mahal complex to offer Namaz on Fridays.  This was done keeping in view the security of the world-famous monument.

The order was challenged by a petitioner, who approached the Supreme Court.  The highest court has today said that outsiders can't offer Namaz in the interest of preservation.  "Why for such prayers they should go to the Taj Mahal.  There are other mosques also. They can offer their prayers there," the SC has observed.

Those locals wishing to offer prayers there can do so after producing proper identity cards.  The dismissal of the petition against the Agra administration's order has been welcomed by sections of citizens and intelligentsia.
