'Hey Ram', written and directed by Kamal Haasan, will be adapted again more than 18 years after it was released in 2000. Shah Rukh Khan, who played a liberal-minded, Gandhian Muslim in the historical-fiction, has acquired the remake rights.
Speaking to a media house, Kamal has expressed his happiness at the fact that the rights are with SRK. The Bollywood superstar couldn't be paid anything because of financial issues. "He only had a wristwatch from me," Kamal said.
When the film released, its genre didn't go down well with the audience. For all its intelligence and finesse, the film flopped at the box office. Besides the Kamal-SRK duo, Rani Mukherjee, Vasundhara, Hema Malini, Naseeruddin Shah (as Mahatma Gandhi), Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni (as an RSS man), Vikram Gokhale and Nasser also did the movie.
