#TalkToAMuslim draws encouraging response
At a time when Muslim minority in India is perceived to be facing discrimination in public life, sections of civil society members have floated a hashtag titled #TalkToAMuslim to encourage dialogue with social media as the podium.
Said author Rana Safvi, "I am an Indian Muslim. I have fun, I enjoy life. I can talk to you on Shakespeare, Ghalib, Meerabai, the Mughals and the First war of Indian independence. Of Muslim contribution to freedom struggle. Come talk to me."
Public personality Gauhar Khan noted, "Seriously didn’t think a day would come where talking to a Muslim leader or a commoner would question your patriotism or your belief in your own faith!! By land I am a Hindu, by faith I am a Muslim and by heart n soul INDIAN is my identity!!! (sic)."
Noted actress Swara Bhaskar, "YES. A hundred times yes. #India will not succumb to hate. Let’s spread the message of love and peace. India comes in all creeds, and from all beliefs. India stands for love and peace."
