Ten-time MP, Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee died
Former Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee who is suffering from kidney related problems is admitted in Belle Vue Clinic in Kolkatta on 10th August is died.
Mr. Somnath Chatterjee earned a lot of respect from all the parties in his 40 years long political career. Even he refused to step down from the Speaker's chair and vote against govt as his party ordered. He held firm to the democratic principle of independence of the Speaker.
He is one of the few leaders who elected as MP for 10 times. This 10 MP is admired universally for being a tough and fair Lok Sabha speaker. In his long political career, Somnath Chatterjee lost to Mamta Banerjee in 1984. Except for this, he won as MP in all times.
Mr. Somanth Chatterjee born on 25th July 1929 at Tejpur, Assam. He dedicated to CPI(M) for 40 years right from the date he joined(1968-2008). Later he is dismissed by the party post-Somnath Ji refused to step down as Lok Sabha speaker abiding by the rules and stature of the position.
He has a wife, a son and two daughters. He got Bachelors and Masters degree in Law from Jesus College, Cambridge London. He was awarded by the honorary fellowship by the Jesus college in 2007. Before entering into politics, he worked as the lawyer in both Calcutta High Court and Supreme Court.
