Will the third lady director succeed?
Female writers and directors in the film industry have to be valued because they are rare to come by. In the male-dominated entertainment industry, women are a minority, especially in technical departments. As such, it's a matter of joy that, so far this year, three female directors have been around.
Sree Ranjani-directed 'Rangula Raatnam', starring Raj Tharun in the lead and produced by Nagarjuna, hit the cinemas in January. The film, however, was a disaster. 'Kaasi', directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, hit the screens yesterday. Critics have panned the emotional drama for its abysmally sub-par content.
With the two lady directors biting the dust, all hopes are on the third one. It's Sanjana Reddy, a debutante. Her 'Raju Gadu', starring Raj Tharun and Amyra Dastur in the lead roles, will hit the cinemas on June 1. Let's hope for the best!
