Yogi declines skull cap but so what?
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath is in the news for refusing to wear the Islamic skull cap during an official visit to popular saint Kabir's mausoleum in Maghar town in UP. When the mausoleum's caretaker offered him a skull cap, the BJP leader declined to wear it.
The incident has been used to slam the UP CM by sections of media. The BJP, however, has called it Yogi's freedom of choice rather than intolerance.
Sections of intellectuals are supporting Yogi on the episode. Said writer Vikas Saraswat, "Kabir was one of the 12 disciples of Sant Ramanand. Ramanand was influenced by Nathpanthis- a tradition represented by Gorakshapeeth which Yogi Adityanath heads. People stop lecturing as to what he should have worn at Kabir's grave. He knows Kabir better than all of you."
