With Deepika Padukone's name allegedly finding a mention in the drugs case (the Narcotics Control Bureau is yet to make it official), critics of the BJP in the media and social media are now saying that the power-wielders have started an organized witch-hunt of Narendra Modi's critics in Bollywood.
A number of folks on social media are alleging that Deepika is being targeted because she stood up for Leftist student organizations of the famous JNU in Delhi during the anti-CAA protests. This happened just before the release of 'Chhappak', her Hindi-language film. Commenting on news reports, journalist Pooja Prasanna said, "So predictable the script is. Deepika Padukone who was at JNU happens to be the next big Bollywood target in the Drugs Mafia saga."
There is a suspicion among Leftists and other anti-BJP sections that Kangana Ranaut has become a mouthpiece of the ruling part. Her tweets have been direct and somewhat sensational, they allege. "Narcoterrorism which is being unleashed upon us by vested interests within our nation and neighbouring countries to destroy our young population and systematically ruin our future, is one of the biggest challenges that we face today. Are we ready to take it head on?" the 'Queen' actress tweeted after mocking Deepika in a tweet.
There is an allegation that more and more Bollywood personalities will be targeted in the coming days.
