BJP's tweet becomes controversial

Earlier on Saturday, even as the Delhi Assembly elections have been on, the Twitter handle of BJP Karnataka tweeted out a video clip in which Muslim women are seen displaying their voter IDs.  Posting the clip, the handle said, ""Kaagaz Nahi Dikayenge Hum"!!! Keep the documents safe, you will need to show them again during #NPR exercise."

The tweet, say critics, reeks of a communal mindset.  "When people from all communities opposing the NPR and NRC, why is the BJP saying such things only to Muslims?" a social media user asked.  Journalist Dhanya Rajendran noted, "Of all the BJP handles on Twitter, is this the most hateful one? And of course the most cowardly as they tend to delete their tweets."

Others said that the tweet only shows that there is inconsistency in the way the BJP has been talking about the NPR.  "Didn't Amit Shah say that no documents need to be produced for NPR?  Why then is the handle talking about Voter IDs as proof now?" a user commented.
