Control population explosion, Puri Jagannadh tells the PM
Filmmaker and compulsive writer Puri Jagannadh has donned the hat of a letter-writer for a change. The letter has been addressed to none other than the country's Prime Minister.
Taking to Twitter, he first provocatively asks whether plastic is really a problem. The 'iSmart Shankar' and 'Fighter' director then says that recycling and reusing plastic is the best way forward instead of opting for ineffective substitutes like paper bags.
So far, so good.
The problem is that Puri uses certain terms that were not needed to be there in a letter to India's PM. He says that "population explosion" is the biggest problem. Where is the so-called explosion happening in India? That is an irrelevant term. India's population is now stabilizing fast. Secondly, climate change has nothing much to do with the number of people living in a country. It's about lifestyle and factors like industrialization. The US emits far more GHG emissions than India.
