General Motors laid off 1419 employees in India
US carmaker General Motors India has laid off 1,419 people in India. They were given a lay-off under Section 25 of the Industrial Disputes Act while working at the Talegaon plant in the suburbs of Pune. The unions are angry over the company's action.
The Unions decided to challenge this decision in court. The company sent an e-mail to all employees announcing the lay-off. The same copy was sent to the Secretary and President of the General Motors Employees' Union. Also, they will be compensated 50 per cent of their base salary.
General Motors Employees Union president Sandeep Bhegade said they would take the matter to court over the company's decision to lay off employees.
