Narendra Modi has once again pitched for 'One Nation, One Election'. In an address on Thursday, the Prime Minister reiterated his stance that there is a need to deliberate upon the phenomenon.
"It isn't just an issue of deliberation, but also need of the country. Only one voter list should be used for Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha and other elections. Why are we wasting time and money on these?" Modi asked.
A single voter list for LS, Assembly and local body elections will have to be drawn up as per him. It will be a phenomenal national excercise.
In the past, when Modi and BJP spoke of the idea of One Nation, One Election, a number of commentators criticized it. "It's a ploy to create One Party, One Leader," Yogendra Yadav noted.
