Motera Stadium is named after Narendra Modi
Today, President Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated the world's largest cricket stadium at Motera, Ahmedabad. In this inaugural event, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devrat, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has attended.
Addressing the event, Amit Shah has announced Motera Stadium is called 'Narendra Modi Stadium'. He lauded Gujarat CM for taking the reigns of GCA and promoting sports. As CM said, Gujaratis need to progress in two fields Sports and the Armed- Forces.
Amit Shah also announced to construct of a sports complex in Naranpura, coupled with Sardar Vallabhai Patel Sports Enclave and Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. With these three, any International sport will be conducted in Ahmedabad and it will be popular as 'Sports City'.
Today, Narendra Modi Stadium will host its first-ever cricket match, that too, day-night one with a pink ball. This is the second Pink ball test match that will be held in India. The seating capacity of Narendra Modi Stadium is 1,32,000.
Coming to cricket, England has won the toss and opted to bat first.
