Muslim cleric clears UPSC (IAS/IPS) exam

Shahid Raza Khan is on a cloud nine.  A cleric by choice, he has cracked the UPSC 2018 exam (whose results were declared earlier this month) with All India Rank 751.

"I come from Bihar's Gaya.  I received basic education from a madrasa in my village. Then I moved to Al Jamaitul Ashrafia, Mubarakpur (Azamgarh) and I am currently pursuing a PhD from JNU.  I aspired to go for civil services right from my days in madrasa. My mother is my inspiration, she always supported me in studying whatever I wanted to," he tells ANI.

Students from madrasa and other such religious schools are generally looked down upon as regressive.  What does Khan have to say about it?  "No madrasa, mosque or religion should be stereotyped. Religion teaches us to serve humanity and I will do the same," he says.
