Tulsi Gabbard, the former US presidential candidate of the Democrats, has called it "child porn". Commentators are not surprised that a "culture war" is brewing in the US over 'Cuties', a French movie that has been trashed for the "sexualization" of children. Senator Tom Cotton and Indiana Representative Jim Banks have called on the Department of Justice to bring legal action against Netflix for releasing the film.
'Cuties' endangers child welfare, a social media influencer said. "If you are defending 'Cuties', you are a sick and twisted individual with a warped brain incapable of telling right from wrong," thundered another.
At the time of writing, there were more than six lakh signatures to a petition asking Netflix to withdraw the film which sexualizes its pre-teen characters in the name of awareness about, well, the sexualization of children.
"Seems like a good day to remind you all that Jodie Foster played a prostitute in 'Taxi Driver' when she was 12. And that movie is regarded as iconic," said a Twitter user in the meanwhile.
