No CM who became PM got second term!
In politics, jinxes are normal as in the film industry and elsewhere. One of the long-standing jinxes of Indian politics is that no incumbent or former Chief Minister who went on to become India's Prime Minister won a second term.
Morarji Desai, Charan Singh, VP Singh, PV Narasimha Rao, and Deve Gowda, who had served as CMs before leading the country, failed to receive a fresh mandate after serving as the PM. Of these, the fate of Desai and PVNR has to be the worst, because they lost historic opportunities to serve two terms.
Why are we even discussing this now? No prizes for guessing that it's because Narendra Modi is seeking a second mandate as the PM. He was the CM of Gujarat thrice. Will Modi break the jinx tomorrow (May 23)? Let's see!
