Telangana HC's words virtually rule out any film releases for a month

After Bollywood, Sandalwood and Kollywood, the Telugu film industry is in for a blow. If the postponement of important films like 'Tuck Jagadish', 'Love Story' and 'Viraata Parvam' was not enough, even small films like 'Thank You Brother', 'ISHQ' and 'Ek Mini Katha' might face headwinds.

On Monday, the Telangana High Court observed that the State government has to take a call on imposing night curfew or week-end lockdown in the wake of the surging COVID-19 cases. This comes hours after it asked the government what steps it had taken to minimize footfalls in theatres.

The court also said that it will be passing orders to the effect if the government doesn't take a call within two days.

If night curfews are imposed, at least one show will be washed out completely. The evening show will also see a lukewarm response from the audience for all practical purposes. And if there is a lockdown on weekends, there is no question of movie releases happening.

Looks like May will see the release of movies directly on OTT.
