Here is Why Asiad Gold Medalist Swapna Barman requests for special shoes
On Wednesday, Swapna Barman became the first Indian heptathlete to win an Asian Games gold. While her achievement is inspiring, she is also in the news for requesting for customised shoes that suit her feet. She has 6 toes in both legs.
"Her father is a rickshaw puller, mother is working in a tea garden, and she is running for her country in the final event of the Heptathlon with a bandaged jaw. And winning it for India. This country certainly has no shortage of heroines," Joy Bhattacharjya said.
Congratulating her and Arpinder Singh, another champ, former cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar said, "Brilliance in the track and field events again. Outstanding performances from Swapna Barman (who blazed ahead with a bandaged jaw & 6 toes on each foot) and Arpinder Singh. Both won Gold Medals at the Heptathlon and Triple Jump Events respectively. Just amazing!"
