'Sacred Games' abuses Rajiv Gandhi: Congressman
'Sacred Games', the Hindi-language original series that was recently kickstarted on a digital platform, has now become the target of some Congressmen.
In one of the episodes, Nawazuddin Siddiqui's character blames Rajiv Gandhi for playing communal politics with the landmark Shah Bano judgment in 1985. When the Supreme Court said that the divorced Muslim woman deserves alimony, the Congress government upturned the verdict to appease orthodox Muslim men.
Referring to this game-changing chapter in Indian history, the Sacred Games's character says, "... Shah Bano ko alag jalaya, desh ko alag. She won the case in the court. But the prime minister told her to shut up..."
Nawazuddin's character goes to the extent of calling Rajiv a 'fattu', which is translated to mean the female genital. The complainant has approached the Kolkata police.
