Yes, the situation is pinching: Petroleum Minister
Dharmendra Pradhan, the Minister of Petroleum, has today said that the government is serious about reducing fuel prices, which have touched an all-time high in recent days.
"The common man will definitely benefit from reduced prices. The price situation is pinching and we are serious about it. As is known, companies vary the prices as per the international crude prices," Pradhan said. The Minister said that a consensus will be built to bring petrol under GST.
He defended the high duties on fuel. "The government is spending on important areas like electrification," he said, adding that budgetary outlays on schemes like Indira Awas Yojana have increased in recent years. "We are doing much more welfare than the previous government," he told a TV channel.
